One morning, I was standing above the Blue Pool at Bermagui. The clouds on the horizon were dark, the wind was immense, and the waves that usually crashed into the side of the cliff face were creeping over into the pool itself. It reminded me of a story about some people who had been in the pool during similar weather, where they were swept out to sea when a large wave covered the pool entirely. Fortunately, that story ended well, with all of them making it safely back to land. But the risk of a similar wave appearing was front of mind that morning.
Great read mate and I can completely understand it. Around boxing day 10 years ago just gone one of our close College friends took her life. I always find it difficult around the period for this reason, a time that should be so joyful is tinged with sadness.
I like the analogy as well about how tiring it can be, I think now R4R has become something that almost looks after itself. Which is incredible to think on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday at the times it's on there will always be someone there to greet you.
Love it and you are spot on. Many years ago I was involved in a group looking at how we in the West could best help 1st world nations. They realised that just giving people things we thought they needed or should have often ended badly because it wasn’t what they wanted. Your stepping back from R4R shows that this is what the community wants/needs and have taken ownership of the group. It is no longer a few really well intentioned people carrrying the load. Breeny, you read the need perfectly and enabled others to come on board.
Why I needed a break from R4R and why I'm glad I took it
