"She found herself crying in her car, unable to get out"
and the first R4R Podcast: The Road to Zero
A woman arrived at the car park before Wednesday’s R4R, but she was overcome with emotion. It had been a hard week and she found herself crying in her car, unable to get out.
Someone else on their way to R4R saw her, knocked on the window to check if she was okay, and helped her build the courage to attend R4R, allowing her to enter the evening better for it.
This wasn’t an R4R volunteer, it wasn’t an R4R board member… it was a genuine interaction between two people from within our community… and it epitomises the willingness of people to help others when they see someone in need.
One of the reasons we believe Canberra can be suicide-free is because of the people in Canberra… They care about their fellow Canberran’s and they’re willing to put their money where their mouth is.
This interaction is testament to that.
At tonight's run…
Every R4R Runner will receive an ANZAC biscuit after tonight’s run! It’s part of a larger initiative supporting Bravery Trust, and it’s a great cause in its own right, but with R4R legends Murray and Singh behind it, we can’t help but jump on board.
Read more about it here.
And then on ANZAC Day…
🌅 Dawn Service – Starts at 5:30am (coffee van from 5:00am)
🏃♀️ Running for Resilience – Anzac Edition – Straight after the service with the fire-up speech from Foreshore local Sam Schumacher.
🍳 Breakfast – Served at The Dock and Local Press Cafe, right next door
All welcome so come early, bring a friend, and start Anzac Day right.
The R4R Podcast: The Road to Zero…
We’ve started our Podcast journey and we’ll be releasing our first episode soon, but we want you along for the ride. If you’d like to be interviewed, if you’d like to interview someone, or if you’ve got an idea for someone to interview, please email us.
Similarly, if you’ve got a story to tell but not quite ready for an interview, we’d love to share it in this newsletter. Sharing stories helps us understand our struggles and gives others a blueprint to navigate their own.
