What is it about the Olympics that fills you with a sense of pride..? Is it the same thing that makes me say hoo-roo all the time… and is it the same thing that has underpinned R4Rs success?
It’s an identity
When an Aussie fulfils a life long dream and stands up on the international stage, I’m proud to be Australian, and when I say hoo-roo at almost every juncture in a conversation, I’m doubling down on my Aussie Identity…
There’s something wired in us that makes us want to belong, and when we find that place or group of people, we’re proud of it.
Uniform
A while back, someone messaged me to ask about merchandise, mentioning the benefit that his uniform played when he was part of the Defence force, and he wanted to see R4R benefit from the same thing.
As a veteran, the shirts and kit are a feeling of inclusion and being able to put another community 'uniform' on.
R4R represents an identity
Running for Resilience represents a mindset. That we aren’t what happens to us, we are how we respond. It represents a belief that no one is destined for suicide and that everyone can get through whatever struggle they’re facing.
It represents that regardless of our struggle, there is always something that we can do to improve our situation.
And when we see others believing in the same thing, we grow stronger in our beliefs, and we feel a sense of pride for whatever R4R accomplishes… because it’s a community representing us and something we believe in.
Shameless plug
So, we’ve pulled our finger out and thanks to some great work from
, we now have an online store for people to purchase their uniform. The proceeds will go toward making Canberra suicide-free but the outcome is far more than that.Every time you wear R4R merch, you’re telling the world it’s okay to struggle… it’s necessary to struggle, and on the other side of pain is strength.
You open the door to a conversation about mental health… and at the very least, you’re spreading awareness about R4R. Regardless of whether you wear our uniform, thank you for identifying with Running for Resilience, our beliefs, and our mission.
Just. Keep. Moving.
