Welcome to the 19th edition of the ‘Meet the R4R Runners’. I’d like to state again that I’m very appreciative of the time taken by people to complete this questionnaire as it extends R4Rs reach and helps keep that small community vibe.
This week we get to meet Em, who’s been running with us since late last year but already feels like part of the furniture on Wednesday nights. She’s always a pleasure to talk to and you’d be pretty unlucky not to be met with a smile from her. As with all our participants, we’re extremely lucky to have Emily champion what R4R stands for.
So let’s meet Emily!
What is your name?
Emily Murphy ‘Murph’ ‘Murphdawg'
Where are you from?
Canberra ACT
What's your favourite thing about Canberra? (apart from R4R obviously)
I love the weather in Canberra, we experience the best of both worlds (cold and warmth) but it is never too hot or too cold.
How did you hear about R4R and when did you first attend?
I heard about R4R from Benny A and a few of the other Owls players that were attending in the first year ‘HOOT HOOT’. However I only built up the courage and confidence to attend my first R4R in November 2021 and to be honest I wish I had gone earlier because I am so in love with the R4R community and concept.
What's your favourite thing about R4R?
I enjoy the like minded people that push and encourage you each week which demonstrates the great culture at R4R.
Is there anything you'd like to see R4R do?
I would like R4R to get some teams together for larger running events and relays that are held around Canberra each year.
Have you ever run a marathon before? If so, how'd you go?
I have not run a marathon before but I would definitely like to run one in the next year or two!
Are you planning on taking part in any races or events soon?
I am planning on taking part in the Canberra Times Half Marathon on April 10th 2022.
Which three people (alive or dead) would you like to run 6km with?
Liam Hemsworth
Chris Hemsworth
Luke Hemsworth
Hmmm… I sense a theme there? - What does resilience mean to you?
The ability to ‘bounce back’ and overcome adversity and use those tough times as a learning in order to grow.
When you look back on the hardest moment/s in your life, is there anything you wish you could have told yourself?
I wish I was more aware of the 5x5 rule. As it states that if you come across an issue take a moment to think whether or not it will matter in 5 years. If it won’t, don’t spend more than 5 minutes stressing over it.
We've stopped the count on Benny A vs. Jonesy... So, who do you think takes out the R4R gift this year (both male and female)?
My bets are on Liam O’Rorke and Champagne Running girl from Strava to take out the R4R gift this year. But for the record I would put my bet on Brent Ford in the Clydesdale award for 100kg and above.
A new contender! Thanks for the answers, Em!
