Meet the R4R Runners #18

Welcome to the 18th edition of the ‘Meet the R4R Runners’ where we get to meet some R4R Royalty. He was there at the first run, he’s collecting your jumpers and valuables before every run, and what he lacks in stature… he makes up for by being one of the better blokes you’ll ever meet.

R4R wouldn’t be the same without all of the effort this fella puts into Wednesday nights and I’m certainly appreciative of the logistical and admin assistance he provides, but I’m appreciative of this bloke in general. So without further ado, let’s meet Google!

Where are you from?

Molong, NSW

What's your favourite thing about Canberra? (apart from R4R obviously)

That it’s a big country town. It’s only about 30 minutes to anywhere you want to go and has all the great parks and trails scattered around and just outside the border.

How did you hear about R4R and when did you first attend?

Heard it from the man himself Matt Breen. When he approached Benny, Shooter and I to go jogging with him and his 6 other mates every Wednesday arvo and then have a beer after. Who’d have thought 2 years later we’re up over 80 people most weeks!

What's your favourite thing about R4R?

Meeting new people every week. No matter if you know anyone who runs or just want a free schooner every week. It caters for all fitness levels and everyone is like minded in their pursuit to Just. Keep. Moving.

Is there anything you'd like to see R4R do? 

Get teams together for the bigger running events, like the Canberra Times, Weston Creek, Everest races etc.

Have you ever run a marathon before? If so, how'd you go? 

I’ve never done a marathon but have done a few half marathons before. It’s definitely on the bucket list for this year or next, pending fitness levels…

Are you planning on taking part in any races or events soon?

Looking at doing the Canberra Times half marathon again. Enjoyed it thoroughly last year so it would be rude not to have a crack again.

What does resilience mean to you?

Picking yourself/someone else up when you/they aren’t having the best time of it. Everyone has a different way to deal with things so just letting someone know that you’re there or need help can make a huge difference.

When you look back on the hardest moment/s in your life, is there anything you wish you could have told yourself? 

To just keep putting one foot in front of the other and that tomorrow is a new day and even though things won’t be forgotten, they will get easier.

We've stopped the count on Benny A vs. Jonesy... So, who do you think takes out the R4R gift this year (both male and female)?

For the record I’m on Liam with a weight pack to take Benny down. I’m also hoping this as it takes him out of winning back to back male gifts. So I’m going to say Mac and Lil.
