Welcome to the 16th edition of the ‘Meet the R4R Runners’ where it feels like we’ve seen the shine off the new ball and we’re really settling into a nice innings! Thank you again to all of the people that have responded so far, we’ve got enough responses to reach 30 easily.
If you haven’t received a request to complete the questionnaire and feel like you should have, please don’t worry - it’s simply a factor of how big our group is! Furthermore, if you have a strong desire to take part, please let me know and we can get it organised.
This week however, we get to meet a lovely lady who’s been running with R4R for almost a year now. Jenny exudes positive energy and is a pleasure to chat to, or say hello to, every Wednesday. So without further ado, let’s meet Jenny!
What is your name?
Jenny Yang
Where are you from?
China
How did you first hear about R4R?
When did you first attend R4R?
May 2021
What keeps you coming back to R4R?
People, R4R community vibe and lake view
Do you have a R4R Personal Best? If not, what’s your 5km PB?
Not yet, I normally do 3-4km, but will try 5km one day!
Do you prefer the winter R4Rs or the Summer R4Rs?
Haven’t experienced Summer run yet, but the winter run was awesome!
This answer has aged well given the cool summer we’ve experienced! Do you prefer Friday or Wednesday R4R? or in other words… Do you prefer beer or coffee?
I am an evening runner so prefer Wed's R4R.
If you could go for a 3km/6km walk or run with 3 people alive or dead, who would you choose and why?
Hahaha, I don’t mind either because I’m able to talk while running, so probably not much difference.
What does resilience mean to you?
commitment, trying and staying calm
Is there a time in your life where you’ve had to rely on your ability to be resilient?
I remember the first day I arrived in Canberra, it was early January, I was 19 and had left my family to start a new journey in a country that I had never visited before. I was surrounded by a culture and language that I barely understood. Everything was extremely different to the environment I was brought up in, there were countless unexpected challenges that I had to face with every second of every day while dealing with my homesickness for at least the first 6 months. Things like how the bus timetable worked, where to shop, where to get a phone sim card, how to open a bank account, what courses I should enrol in at Uni and how to rent a place to live, made for a mentally and physically challenging time. Now looking back I guess I got through it by embracing this new experience with some level of resilience.
If you could say one thing to someone going through something tough at the moment, what would it be?
Talk to people you can rely on and trust (i.e. friends, family or professionals), and keep yourself busy.
In the 2022 edition of the R4R Gift, who will win the coveted Clydesdale award 100kg and above? Jonesy, Benny A, or other?
I guess someone starting with J :)
Thanks, Jenny!
