Welcome to the 12th edition of the Meet the R4R Runners. This week we get to meet a fella who is a regular at all three R4R timeslots. I first met Aaron on a Friday morning R4R and remember a friendly bloke who, when we chatted, referenced my story and shared his own experiences.
Those conversations with people who have experienced a somewhat similar pain are sometimes the most helpful. Outside of all the good that comes from that, Aaron is simply a fantastic person to be around and is part of the R4R furniture. So without further ado, let’s meet Aaron!
What is your name? Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Aaron Glaskin
Where are you from?       Â
Canberra
Have you always lived in Canberra? Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
No. Lived in the US and the UK in the 90s and 00s.
How did you first hear about R4R? Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
I saw it actually as I live in the area.
When did you first attend a R4R? Â Â Â Â Â Â
Sometime in 2019 I believe.
What keeps you coming back to R4R? Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Familiar faces and a welcome distraction from everything else.
Do you have a R4R Personal Best? If not, what’s your 5km PB?           Â
R4R PB is 28.04 from what I can see on Strava.
Do you prefer the winter R4Rs or the Summer R4Rs? Â Â Â Â Â
Winter
Do you prefer Friday or Wednesday R4R? or in other words… Do you prefer beer or coffee?    Â
I like doing them both but Wednesday night is my preferred.
If you could go for a 3km/6km walk or run with 3 people alive or dead, who would you choose and why?Â
Grandfather (miss him), Jason Sudeikis (hilarious), Fredrik Backman (favourite author).
What does resilience mean to you?        Â
It means raw talent is wasted unless you possess resilience and grit. It means you would rather come last knowing you tried your best rather than come first and didn’t give it your all.
Is there a time in your life where you’ve had to rely on your ability to be resilient?   Â
Death of family members. 3 in the course of 12 months. Was pretty tough and being active helps a lot.
If you could say one thing to someone going through something tough at the moment, what would it be? Â Â Â
Chat to people about it. Sometimes someone you’re not close to is best.
In the 2022 edition of the R4R Gift, who will win the coveted Clydesdale award 100kg and above? Jonesy, Benny A, or other? Â Â Â Â Â Â
Benny A unless he trims down even more!
Cheers, Aaron! See you tomorrow morning!
