Welcome to the 9th edition of the Meet the Runners revisited, where we get to meet Tim… again!
Tim is a co-founder of the Sunday Sesh and he’s a great bloke doing great things. Last week, we heard about the work he’s doing with mo(re) than a run, so instead of the obligatory photo, we’ve gone one better and given him his own video!
How have you been?
Yeah I’ve been great, very busy with work and training, but the warm weather has been a welcome relief.
Knocked off any running events recently?
Yeah, did the Melbourne half marathon just on the weekend actually.
What's been your highlight in the past two years?
Two years is such a long time but I’d have to say settling into my new home. And discovering distance running.
We're big believers in supporting our community when they're doing something to improve the world around them. You're doing something exciting at the moment, would you like to elaborate?
Yeah so I am in the process of organising a fundraiser called more than a run on Saturday 25th of November. It’s an event Movember and powered by Lululemon.
Pretty much, it’s an opportunity for runners in the community and all around Australia to run together to make a meaningful impact on men’s health, mental health, and suicide prevention.
If you would like learn more about it and possibly get involved you can go to the website via the link below (and remember to join our team ‘running for resilience’)
Your original answer to "what does resilience mean to you?" was "that when things get hard and tough, which happens to everyone, how you handle it and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Communication is one of the biggest assets you can have."
Do you still think it is? Would you change it at all?
I think it does, I’d probably just elaborate and say that it’s okay to make yourself vulnerable to others, we don’t have to put up this tough-alright attitude all the time.
Is there something you've learned in the past two years that has helped you comprehend your previous struggles more that might shed light for others going through something? Have you endured/overcome something in the last two years?
Yeah, I think just being your complete and utter self, for me. I went through a lot of struggles with self-judgement and what people thought of me. At the end of the day none of it matters, people love seeing others just being themselves.
You've been a massive part of the R4R community so far. How do you think we can achieve our goal of making Canberra suicide-free?
It’s absolutely astonishing the rate of male suicides across the world and even in Canberra. If more than a run in Canberra could even prevent just one suicide and maybe we would never know, then I know we are somewhat on track to that goal.
Thanks, Tim!
