Welcome to the 94th and 95th edition of the Meet the R4R Runners. This week we get to meet John and Butzy, who are regulars for the Wednesday night run/walk… only recently they’ve been using it as a cooldown!
They’re great fellas that always greet you with a smile and they’ve dished up some great answers, so without further ado… let’s meet these two!
What are your names?
John Veloudos
James Butz
Where are you from?
John: Canberra
James: Canberra
What's your favourite thing about Canberra?
John: Being the Bush Capital of Australia
James: Lake Burley Griffin
How did you hear about R4R and when did you first attend?
John: Friend of mine (Hamish Dawson of Uni North Owls fame) suggested to come down in early of 2021, have been coming ever since
James: My housemate (Hamish Dawson) brought me along back in February of 2021
Big wraps for Hamish! What's your favourite thing about R4R?
John: The welcoming environment it presents, whether that's meeting new people or having someone to open up to
James: The consistency. Rain, hail/snow or shine there’ll be runners going to Commonwealth Bridge and back
What would you like to see R4R do?
John: For Breeny to come back for another episode on the Sunday Sippers Podcast
James: A last man/woman standing run/fundraiser. Run 5/6k every hour on the hour until only one runner remains
I would never want to do one of those things… I’ll let you decide… What's the longest you've ever run?
John: 43k Trial Run (Climbing Mt Majura, Ainslie & Black Mountain)
James: 100km in December last year
Are you planning on taking part in any races or events soon or are there any just gone?
John: I'm racing the Port Macquarie Iron Man on the 5th of May! Feel free to follow the journey @sundaysippersau on Instagram, where James & I document our training through content & podcasting
James: Competing at Ironman Australia in Port Mac on the 5th of May. Hopefully the start of a long career at full distance triathlon
Which three people (alive or dead) would you like to run or walk 6km with?
John: Barack Obama, Khabib Nurmagomedov & Mum
James: David Goggins, Billy Slater, Usain Bolt
What does resilience mean to you?
John: Doing the hard/right thing regardless if you feel like doing it or not
James: Showing up even when things aren’t going in your favour.
When you look back on the hardest moment/s in your life, is there anything you wish you could have told yourself?
John: That every moment eventually passes with time, along with feelings and thoughts
James: Stay disciplined and ride the wave. Most feelings pass and the ones that remain serve a purpose for future endeavours
Thanks, Fellas!
Only 1 week left!
R4R Goes to Park Run
