Welcome to the 88th and 89th editions of the Meet the R4R Runners, Given that Valentine’s Day is next week, we thought we’d revisit the ‘meet the couple’ format, and meet Dan and Georgia.
Without giving too much away, this one is well worth a read!
So, without further ado, let’s meet Dan and Georgia!
What are your names?
Daniel Conlin
Georgia McCall
Where are you from?
Daniel: Originally from a small country town named Millicent in S.A.
Georgia: Devonport, Tasmania
What's your favourite thing about Canberra?
Daniel: I do love the some of the amazing people I’ve met here. I like how easy it can be living here.
Georgia: The convenience of getting around, the bush surrounds and the beautiful sunsets.
How did you hear about R4R and when did you first attend?
Daniel: I first heard about R4R back in 2021 through my great friend Kyla Wilson. She encouraged me to coming, so I did. Best suggestion ever!
Georgia: Steve! The most regular R4R attendee asked me to come along about a year ago.
What's your favourite thing about R4R?
Daniel: I very much enjoy how it brings the community together. I’ve met some really great people at the runs. And how can I forget to mention that I met my now Fiancé Georgia McCall at the run almost 1 year ago now.
Georgia: As soon as I finished my first run, I sighed with satisfaction at the fact that I felt like I found a safe space that was completely different to my workplace and home life. The people here have real stories and want real connections, leading me to meet my fiancé here!!!
What would you like to see R4R do?
Daniel: Perhaps plan an afternoon where we all gather round for an epic picnic afternoon down by the lake.
Georgia: I think there are multiple sessions run to suit people’s lifestyles. I think it’s great that R4R supports a realm of different support groups and charities and allows people agency to speak. The growth of R4R is credit to what the team already does.
What's the longest you've ever run?
Daniel: I did the Canberra half marathon last year. Tip for young players, maybe do some training beforehand….I didn’t ha.
Georgia: 14kms ( City2surf)
Are you planning on taking part in any races or events soon or are there any just gone?
Daniel: I would like to do the Canberra half marathon again this year, but get under 2 hours this time (missed it by 3mins).
Georgia: I’d love to do a half marathon, I just need to commit. However, I’ve also been told by my chiro that I need to go easy on the running
Which three people (alive or dead) would you like to run or walk 6km with?
Daniel: Elon Musk, Morgan Freeman, My Grandfather.
Georgia: David Attenborough, Whoopi Goldberg and Beyonce
What does resilience mean to you?
Daniel: It means being able to recover from whatever hardships life throws your way, knowing the whole time that no matter how hard things look, it will always get better. Never give up, always look forward.
Georgia: The ability to push through and choosing to smile and choosing positivity and sticking to that every day. It’s a choice, it’s not innate, we have to know what it is it struggle to then know what resilience is.
When you look back on the hardest moment/s in your life, is there anything you wish you could have told yourself?
Daniel: Don’t dwell on things in the past, you’ll have an amazing life, and this is but a speed bump in a much larger story.
Georgia: I am very good at being an ally to people, but I often brush things off when it comes to my own pain. It doesn’t mean I am not self aware, but I need to reach out more when pain becomes too much.
Hoo roo and congratulations!
