Welcome to the 75th edition of the Meet the R4R Runners where this week, we get to meet Megan, who is one of three brown kelpie owners at R4R that I know about. Obviously, Megan is so much more than that and has been with R4R for nearly three years now. She’s always a pleasure to chat to and she’s provided some cracking answers. So, without further ado, let’s meet her!
What is your name?
Megan Davies
Where are you from?
Originally Country NSW - A little town called Henty. This is my second stint in Canberra.
What's your favourite thing about Canberra?
The access to green space and the active community.
How did you hear about R4R and when did you first attend?
I heard about R4R on
Facebook page and started in October 2020 (almost an original). Back then there were about 20 people coming each week and I was usually the lone walker and brought my kelpie 'Cali' for company. What's your favourite thing about R4R?
The weekly connection with others and the inclusivity of the group.
What would you like to see R4R do?
A charity event to support mental health and bring awareness to the R4R cause.
What's the longest you've ever run?
Does Year 6 cross-country count? I'm part of the R4R walking group.
Yes, year 6 cross-country counts… and that walking group is growing! Are you planning on taking part in any races or events soon or are there any just gone?
No events in the future... I'm hoping to find my running legs one day though.
Which three people (alive or dead) would you like to run or walk 6km with?
My Nan and Gran who have both passed, just to get their words of wisdom now that I'm of an age to appreciate it. And I'd take my Mum along too as it would be nice to share that experience with her.
What does resilience mean to you?
Digging deep and finding strength in yourself and leaning on the people around you, even when you think you can't see a way forward.
When you look back on the hardest moment/s in your life, is there anything you wish you could have told yourself?
You're stronger than you think you are, and these moments will build the foundation for you to tackle big things in the future.
Great answers, Megan, Thank you!
What was once sold out now has 4 tickets available for purchase! If you missed out the first time, get your hands on some tickets this time! It’s a great day with great people, and the cost will be $120, including the bus trip, recovery session, and lunch (race entry and drinks aren’t included).
Last week we met Murray who is an R4R legend (meet him again below). We learnt a bit about an initiative he’s organising and he’s going to give us a tiny spiel about it tonight.
