Welcome to the 93rd edition of the Meet the R4R Runners. This week, we get to meet Benny A’s (better looking?) Brother, Hugh. Obviously he’s more than just Benny A’s Brother… he’s a cracking bloke and I often find myself citing something he said when referring to kids…
“If anybody else in your life (a friend, your boss, a partner) treated you the way your kids do, you’d remove them from your life immediately!”
He’s always good to have a yarn with and he’s delivered with his answers this morning. So, without further ado, let’s meet Hugh!
What is your name?
Hugh
Where are you from?
I grew up in Sydney but Canberra is now home
What's your favourite thing about Canberra?
There’s no traffic
How did you hear about R4R and when did you first attend?
My brother Ben
What's your favourite thing about R4R?
The community and ability to go for a run with mates on a regular basis
What would you like to see R4R do?
Not sure I think it’s already doing so much and including so many people from every walk of life. If there was one thing maybe branch out into other cities
What's the longest you've ever run?
Melbourne Marathon
Are you planning on taking part in any races or events soon or are there any just gone?
I don’t have anything scheduled at this point but I would love to do another Marathon or Triathlon
Which three people (alive or dead) would you like to run or walk 6km with?
David Goggins, Cameron Hanes and my boys Harvey and Archer
What does resilience mean to you?
Facing challenges front on and being honest with yourself as to what you have to do to overcome any challenge you are facing.
When you look back on the hardest moment/s in your life, is there anything you wish you could have told yourself?
That you’re not alone and that so many people are facing the same challenges or struggles you are. Speak up and ask for help or just talk to someone, if people don’t know you’re struggling they can’t help.
Tonight!
To celebrate Holi Festival, there’ll be some colour available at tonight’s run. We also have Kayla saying a few words for World Down Syndrome Day followed by Joe giving one of his famous rev ups before we set off!
A familiar face
An R4R regular is facing an uphill battle post heart surgery. Without divulging too much personal information, some members of our community will be doing what they can to help through Gather my Crew. If you’d like to get involved, please comment below.
