Welcome to the 83rd edition of Meet the R4R Runners, where we get to meet Aliza. She’s a familiar and friendly face and like all of our Raggers, we’re better for having her in our community. She’s got a couple of cracking answers below (particularly her last one), so without further ado, let’s meet Aliza!
What is your name?
Aliza
Where are you from?
Wangi Wangi Lake Macquarie.
What's your favourite thing about Canberra?
It’s a pretty forward-thinking place. We have an amazing array of restaurants, bars and cafes. Living in Canberra, we also have access to the stunning natural beauty of bushland and wildlife.
How did you hear about R4R and when did you first attend?
I saw an article written by the organiser Matt Breen. He discussed strategies for coping, goal setting, and looking forward. It rang true for me in many ways. Differently to me, I was intrigued by your positivity and care for everyone. It was the beginning for me to look beyond my own self.
What's your favourite thing about R4R?
I love everything it stands for. The support from places and people who are giving back and believe in the cause.
What would you like to see R4R do?
I think R4R does plenty of good already. I wouldn’t mind an interval event around the foreshore one day. I love setting a few goals, but I tend to zone out without them.
Are you planning on taking part in any races or events soon or are there any just gone?
Nothing is on the cards currently - Haha, life is good. I normally participate in events when I need to focus and challenge something else.
Which three people (alive or dead) would you like to run or walk 6km with?
My OG fitness mates Stephanie, Erin, and Vesna.
What does resilience mean to you?
Resilience is surviving the situation. It’s the determination to get through whatever is thrown your way. To take yourself out of the present situation and keep going.
When you look back on the hardest moment/s in your life, is there anything you wish you could have told yourself?
There’s nothing I could have said at those times. I wasn’t listening.
Thanks, Aliza!
[MO]RE THAN A RUN
Eagle-eyed readers might pick up on a familiar feature in this year’s (mo)re than a run. Our very own Tim Odell is running the Canberra chapter and it’s all happening at the Arc de Resilience!
P.S. We’ll to meet Tim again in the rag next week, and he’ll say a few words tonight!
