Happy Birthday to us!
Yesterday, Running for Resilience (R4R) turned 3… and the last year has been its best… to be honest.. every month R4R gets older, it gets better… it’s bloody awesome.
Having seen R4R grow from into what it is today is truly humbling. Every time someone from the R4R community puts their hand up to help R4R, to raise money for their own cause, to be advocates in our community and in their own, I become a little more proud.
One of the goals of R4R has always been to shift the movement away from my story, to our community’s story. And as we get older, our story gets longer, more diverse, and filled with more meaning. I’m inspired by what our community has already done, and I’m driven by the potential our community has to do more. But in order to celebrate our growth as a community, we need to celebrate an established community and an individual who has helped make R4R what it is today.
Without Benny A, Shooter, and the Dock, R4R would be a shadow of itself. And not to diminish Shooter and The Docks contributions… but Benny A has been immense in the value contributed towards our community. He’s been the local legend of the foreshore route a few times, he’s given countless monologues before runs, he’s helped drive the co-curricular events, and he’s helped me do more for myself and more for R4R. He’s a good bloke, a great friend… a persistent fella… and a huge driving force behind our community having already saved lives.
So to celebrate our birthday, we’re going to throw to the man himself.
